The name Shinn was invented by John Shinn in about 1678 after he was arrested in England for failure to pay his Tithing. John had joined Fox and Penn in the Quaker Church and, was not paying the manditory Tithing to the Church of England. Therefor the Magistrate had him jailed , shortly after being released from jail he showed up in America in 1678 as a 1/10 proprietary of the Burlington New Cicero {Now New Jersey} Quaker colony. The name Shinn did not exist untill that time and all Shinn's are believed to be related to John Shinn, The only know possible ancester for John Shinn was Frances Sheene a name also invented. It is not known why Frances changed his name but it is in all likelyhood that he was born a Sheehan, And sense he lived in England he may have wanted to appear less Irish and more Brittish. because recent DNA returns from the National Geographics Genogrphic Project show that I am for sure a Shinn and related to all Sheehans. It is therefor assumed that all Shinns "Shins" Sheens and Sheenes are in fact Sheehans.
