How Do I Use MyRootsPlace?

2. Register for a Genealogy account.

3. Wait for your Genealogy account to be activated. (usually less than 3 days)

Our Genealogy Community

Groups: We have member groups that allow people with similar research needs and interests to have their own little "mini" community. Groups have their own Forums and Mailing Lists.
Chat: Our chat room is open 24/7 and we often host genealogy and help classes. We also help research on weekends with our Brick Wall chats.
Email, Private and Instant Messaging. You can reach other members via email, private and instant messaging. When you get an instant message your butterfly will light up!
Web Pages, Blogs, and Forum Articles. Adding a web page or a blog is easy. Other members can comment to your posts, which allows members to help each other. Our Forums are "Journal Style". They are live news feeds. You, and others will get new forum posts quickly by using our RSS feed.
MyRootsPlace Newsletter: Sign up for our newsletter to receive the latest news and updates.
Events Calendar: We have an events calendar for you to add and view reunions, birthdays, anniversaries and more.
Mapping your Ancestors: Our Maps feature allows you to enter your family, an event or historic place. This is a great new tool for researchers!
Your Personal Profile

Your Profile is full of tools. We allow researchers, friends, family to have connections (friends) similar to myspace. You have your own photo album and guestbook. There is an About Me section. You can add music and video from YouTube, Yahoo or Google. You can add your instant messengers and members will be able to instant message you on your Yahoo, MSN, Aim or ICQ messengers. You also have an invite tool to invite new members to help you research!

Our Collaborative Family Tree is fully featured.

Add/edit/view your tree from anywhere you have internet access. You can work on your own family line and help others with theirs.
We merge duplicate individuals and families, so you may find new connections.
Our Pedigree Charts are beautiful and are as large as the number of ancestors you have.
You can add photos, headstones, vital records, video & and audio records.
There are descendant, relationship and timeline charts.
You can download a Gedcom of your family easily.

We backup our online tree twice monthly, so you never have to worry about losing your information.

Notes: For safety reasons please do not add dates for living individuals especially minors. Please use only "Living". You may only add your family manually. Gedcom upload requires premium membership for storage purposes. This also reduces the amount of errors and repeated information in our database.

The goal of MyRootsPlace is to gather, preserve, restore, and display the genealogies, histories, documents, records, historic items & places, of our ancestors. We promote genealogy research, education, restoration, and preservation. We are funded by our premium memberships, donations and our bookstore. We are a member content website. We do not sell data.
